Bath time for baby should be a fun, relaxing time for your baby. And for you too. If you start out with this in mind, you and baby will do just fine. Your pediatrician will tell you how to go about bathing your newborn. Having some cute hooded baby towels can add to the fun. Relax and take your time and everything will go OK.
Most babies enjoy their bath time. There are a few simple rules to help you and baby. First decide where you are going to bathe baby. It can be the sink, or tub or maybe you have one of the bath tubs for babies that are on the market. Before you start, gather everything that you will need. A towel or soft cloth to place baby on while in the tub, to keep baby from slipping. You will need a soft cloth to wash and a towel (a hooded baby towel is great) or blanket to dry baby. Use mild soap (there are many good baby soaps on the market). And a clean diaper and clothes.
Water should be warm, not hot. Test the water temperature by placing your elbow in the water. Remember, baby’s skin is very delicate and can burn very easy.
Never, I mean NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, for any reason leave baby alone. It you have to answer the phone or answer the door, or any other thing, you take baby with you. Dripping wet and all.
As baby gets older, he/she will want to play in the water. Bath toys are many and can be a great thing. Just remember all the safety rules. And if you get a little wet too, you are not made of sugar and will not melt. Babies grow up in a hurry and this is a time that you will remember years from now, so make it good and fun for all.
